The finished tiles or panels are only the top layer. The falls, drainage and waterproofing below them need to work together. That is why the design begins with the room and floor, not with a picture of a shower.
Open where useful, screened where sensible
A clear glass screen can keep the room feeling open while controlling spray. The best position depends on the shower, door, window and the dry area you need around the basin and WC.
